[AJUDA] Falha ao baixar informações do repositório.

Bom, pra começar, sou iniciante nesse ubuntu, e recentemente, tenho visto a necessidade de atualizar o sistema ubuntu 12.10 para alguma outra versão. Em meio as minhas pesquisas, eu achei um site que dizia para eu digitar o comando "sudo update-manager -d" no Terminal, e eu tentei, mas ocorreu um erro, e eu ja procurei em varios lugares como resolver, mas nao achei nada, aparece o seguinte:

Verificar sua conexão com a Internet.

não mexe com atualizar isso aí não que vai dar ruim.
Baixa a última versão no site e faz uma instalação limpa do 0.

-ubuntu 12.10 já está sem suporte desde julho/2011
-faça bkp de seus arquivos e depois faça instalação limpa a partir de um dvd ou pendrive do 16.04 ou 18.04
