Script - Firewall no squeeze

Salve !

Tenho um script em firewall que roda perfeitamente no etch e lenny estou preparando um servidor para migrar esse firewall que roda no lenny e toda vez que rodo ele apresenta o seguinte erro abaixo !!! mais se coloco esse firewall no etch e lenny roda normalmente , porque será ?

É que não tinha postado , mais já está !

#!/bin/bash

Uma coisa que reparei foi meu script está assim:

if [[ $IPTABLES == "" ]]; then
IPTABLES="/sbin/iptables"

Se eu deixar assim , funciona :

if $IPTABLES ; then
IPTABLES="/sbin/iptables"

Não entendi porque

Uma coisa que deparei na comparacao acima e nos meus outros script é que se eu remover o parêntese/Colchete do script , funciona !

Porque isso no squeeze ? se deixo com parêntese/Colchete dá erro ! se tiro o parêntese/Colchete funciona
