Tudo o que foi reconhecido ou não pelo X fica registrado nesse log. Talvez encontremos alguma pista. ;-)

Eu achava que meu mouse wireless com 9 botões era exagero, o seu tem 12! \o/

Não vejo nada demais no arquivo, parece que está tudo ok. A última checagem:

$ xev

Esse comando irá abrir uma pequena janela, posicione o mouse dentro dela. Toda interação, seja ela pelo teclado ou pelo mouse será mostrada através de uma mensagem no terminal. Posicione o dedo na barra de rolagem do touchpad, movimente para cima e para baixo e veja se as mensagens aparecem. A mensagem deverá conter o número do botão para aquele movimento: Movimento para cima (button 4), movimento para baixo (button 5).

Se estiverem aparecendo, não tem NENHUM motivo que eu conheça para não estarem funcionando. :-P

Julio, tentei o $ xev
Mas não apareceu o Button 4 ou 5
Coloquei meu mouse wireless e apareceu, e ativei a rolagem com dois dedos e tbm apareceu..
Mas com um dedo só não deu não :/

E pinduvoz, não entendi mto bem o site que mandou.. é para fazer download de algum arquivo?

Nossa André! Será que esse bug perdura desde o Ubuntu Jaunty?! :-) O post é de 2009 e ainda não conseguiram dar um jeito nisso pelo visto.

Rode os comandos que estão no link do André e depois teste o Touchpad:

$ sudo modprobe -r psmouse
$ sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

Se funcionar, a gente torna definitiva essa configuração. ;-)

Deu certo!! Rodei os comandos
$ sudo modprobe -r psmouse
$ sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps
e deu certo! Agora consigo usar o scroll no canto do touchpad com um dedo!
Pelo o que entendi eu teria que rodar esses comandos sempre que ativasse a maquina de novo, é isso?
Como faz para torná-la definitiva?

Isso mesmo, se você desligar o computador, ele não carregará o módulo no próximo boot. Para tornar definitivo:

Como root, crie um arquivo (se ele não existir) chamado elantech.conf no diretório /etc/modprobe.d/:

# nano /etc/modprobe.d/elantech.conf

Adicione as seguintes linhas:

# Minha alteração para o touchpad Elantech
options psmouse proto=imps

Pronto, não se esqueça de marcar o tópico como resolvido. ;-) Acho que não é preciso marcar uma melhor resposta, ele está bem organizado e numa ordem de perguntas e respostas que facilita a vida de outros membros.

Certinho!
Fiz o arquivo para iniciar a cada boot como vc disse Julio e reiniciei a maquina para testar, deu certo!

Para quem está lendo, é só entrar como root

$ sudo su

depois rodar o seguinte comando

# nano /etc/modprobe.d/elantech.conf

Abrirá uma janela e você coloca isso aqui como conteúdo

# Minha alteração para o touchpad Elantech
options psmouse proto=imps

Então dê um Ctrl + C para salvar e tecle ENTER

E pronto! ;D
