Saudações.
Sou novato em Linux, tenho conhecimentos básicos pois utilizei Ubuntu algumas vezes, mas nunca fui muito a fundo. Instalei o Ubuntu 17.04 aqui para tentar tornar meu trabalho maís produtivo, mas estou tendo um problema com o monitor secundário.

Meu notebook é um Dell Inspiron 5110 com placa de vídeo dedicada ATI Mobility Radeon HD 7570M e placa de vídeo onboard é uma
Intel HD Graphics 3000.

Pesquisei e descobri que desde a versão 16.04 o Ubuntu não dá mais suporte ao driver proprietário das placas ATI da AMD, por causa do Catalyst. Eu não preciso rodar nada muito pesado, então dá pra levar assim, mas estou tendo problemas com o monitor adicional.

Quando ligo o notebook, o monitor adicional, um LG Flatron W2252TQ ligado na porta VGA, funciona normalmente. Alguns minutos depois, a tela fica espelhada nos dois monitores e a resolução dos dois vai pra 1024x768. Se eu entrar nas configurações de monitores, colocar pra extender a tela e arrumar a resolução, ele volta ao normal por pouco tempo. Eu preciso desconectar o cabo VGA do notebook, esperar um tempo e reconectar (se eu reconecto logo em seguida, ele já volta com as telas espelhadas em 1024x768). Algumas vezes, nem isso é suficiente. Os monitores funcionam corretamente por alguns minutos e logo voltam a espelhar as imagens.

Em Drivers adicionais vejo "Processador microcode Firmware for Intel CPUs de Intel-microcode". Pesquisei sobre e li que isso está correto.

Tentei seguir algumas dicas que encontrei no Google para forçar a instalação dos drivers AMD e o que encontrei foi que ele já vem configurado no Mesa, então talvez o problema possa ser outro.

Procurei por erros tipo "Ubuntu perdendo configuração do monitor adicional" ou "forçar resolução tela no Ubuntu" (e muitos outros) em inglês e português e também não obtive grande sucesso. Como é sempre aqui que caio quando tenho dúvidas, espero que alguem consiga me ajudar.

Outro detalhe interessante é que as vezes eu consigo trabalhar o dia inteiro sem isso acontecer. Mas é raro (estou usando Ubuntu há 1 mês).
