problema para configurar interfaces

Bom dia Pessoal,
Estou tento problema para configurar as minhas placas de rede.
uso o debia 6 e estou fazendo um servidor para compartilhar internet.
a minha configuração do /etc/network/interface esta assim:

#The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

allow-hotplug eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.1.159
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.151

quando vou ativar a eth1 da o seguinte erro
root@firewall2:~# ifup eth1
SIOCADDRT: No such process
Failed to bring up eth1

alguem pode dar uma ajuda.

Brother... Tu sabe a diferença de "allow-hotplug" para "auto"? Dá uma pesquisada!

"allow-hotplug" por "allow-auto" ou por "auto". Eles têm quase a mesma função, mas toda linha que contém "auto" identifica a interface de rede que irá subir
