Olá pessoal,
Sinto muito em postar sobre esse assunto, mas já tentei realizar algumas dicas através daqui (fórum), mas não tive sucesso.

Quando tento logar no FTP aparece o seguinte erro:

530 Login Incorrect

Chegar na tela de login chega, isso significa que o acesso à porta está ok, mas... ...porque não consigo logar?
Já refiz a senha do usuário e nada.
Eis o conteúdo do meu proftpd.conf

Ééé galera, o LINUX nos exige muito mais esforço e dedicação. De contra partida, quando resolvemos uma bomba nos sentimos muito satisfeitos.
Resolvi o problema acima.
Apelei ao nosso bom arquivo de LOG.
Verifiquei, que quando o usuário tentava logar no FTP apontava um erro de acesso negado ao arquivo de senhas /etc/passwd.
Alterei as permissões para "OUTROS" dando acesso de leitura a este aqruivo (antes estava sem nenhum acesso) chmod 775 /etc/passwd
BIMBA na goduchinha!
RESOLVIDO o problema.
Parti então para as implementações adicionais, que é a de criar logins distintos que acessarão pastas distintas. PERFEITO!!! FUNFOU!Valeu galera.

Você é corajoso hein! Dando permissão de leitura 'a outros' para o arquivo com as senhas de todos os usuários do sistema.

O meu estava com esse erro: Acesso ao FTP com erro: 530 Login Incorrect
Não sei se foi por que na instalação escolhi inetd, depois coloquei no proftpd.conf o ServerType como standalone

O que fiz:
1- comentei a linha ftp no arquivo /etc/inetd.conf
2- executei o comando killall inetd
3- Pronto acessei belezinha não pediu usuario e nem senha pois estou usando anonimo. Pelo browser ftp://ftp.<dominio>/ ou linha de comando:
ftp localhost

conclusao: o negócio complicado!!!!!
