Não tenho som no Linux, Ja tentei no Mandriva,FreeBSD, OpenSuse, todas as versões agora estou usando Ubuntu 8.04, e tambem não tenho som a placa é reconheçida só que o som não sai das colunas.
Nem com ascutadores tenho som. Com M€ Windows tenho som perfeito.

no freeBSD vá em :

/boot/defaults/loader.conf

e mude essa linha :

snd_hda_load="no" # Intel High Definition Audio (Controller)

de "no" para "yes", ela vai ficar assim .

snd_hda_load="yes" # Intel High Definition Audio (Controller)

reinicie e pronto, vc já tem som ...

Desculpa mas neste momento estou com ubuntu, mesmo sem som achei o FreeBSD muito confuso para mim, ainda sou mt novato no mundo do linux me ajude, eu estou usando Ubuntu so queria mesmo era largar windows duma vez por todas.

Eu penso que a resolução do problema no Ubuntu possa ser semelhante a que voçe indicou para o FreeBSD

no ubuntu vá em sistema, e depois em som se não der certo vá no site do fabricante do site do notebook ou da sua placa mãe do teu pc e baixe um driver para o linux.

o som do sistema está em auto detectar??
o dispositivo de trilhas padrão tá com alguma coisa configurada como analog devices??

Depois de tentar instalar o driver da realtek ele agora nao abre o som. nem no Icon, nem nas definiçoes do som :(

veja se o External Amplifier está habilitado lá no mestre e desabilite-o

eu sei que o artigo mensiona o feisty mas serve para as versões mais recentes.

Meu velho tenho um amigo que está com o mesmo problema. ele tem um notebook Dell Vostro 1400 com placa de som igaul a sua,

Ele já tentou Ubuntu e Fedora 9, mas nenhum deles funciona o som,
bom hoje fiz alguma modificações no notebook dele pelo ssh, e amanhã ele vai testar para mim,

Se eu tiver alguma novidade, eu aviso aqui!
