Olá instalei o ubuntu 11.04 32 bit no meu notebook da sony vpcyb25ab, o sistema esta funcionando bem mas está sem som nenhum, nem no you tube aparece o som só imagens.

Tenta o sguinte: abra o terminal e digite: alsa-mixer e aumente tudo o volume la e tente para ver se o som voltou.

Estou com problema semelhante.

Sou iniciante no uso do Linux no desktop e no notebook, logo, antecipadamente peço desculpas pelas minhas próprias falhas e falta de conhecimento.

É o seguinte, eu instalei o Ubuntu 11.04 no meu PC, que tem motherboard PEGATRON IPM31, com chipset Intel G31 e ICH7, processador Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 e não consegui resolver o seguinte problema: Está mudo, o som não sai nas caixas nem no headphone.

Depois de garimpar a internet e ler tutoriais e dicas que encontrei, sem resolver o problema, então fiz o seguinte:
- Instalei o Win XP/SP3 para eliminar dúvidas sobre o hardware. Conclusão: hardware OK, tudo funcionando.
- Reinstalei o Ubuntu 11.04, instalei tudo que achei do ALSA, chequei todos os setups para nada ficar em mudo, no alsamixer coloquei tudo que foi possível no máximo, e coloquei um CD de áudio para executar via o MP Banshee. Resultado: Nada de som nas caixas e no headphone. Coloquei um arquivo MP3 do pendrive para executar com o AlsaPlayer. Resultado: Nada de som nas caixas e no headphone.
- Atualizei o Ubuntu e refiz os testes e os resultados foram os mesmos.

Na lista do "lspci" a placa de som é reconhecida corretamente. No AlsaMixer, a placa de som também é reconhecida. Todos os aplicativos rodam normalmente sem apresentar qualquer erro, mas o som não vai para as saidas.

Antes eu instalei o Ubuntu 11.04 no notebook SamSung e no PC P3 que estou aposentando. Em ambos o som funcionou e esta funcioando beleza sem necessidade de manobras, massetes e ajustes. Isto é uma pista de que se trata de algo errado com o driver de som para esta placa, no caso, snd-hda-intel.

Alguém mais experiente em Ubuntu pode me dar umas dicas ou indicar um tutorial que me ajude sanar esta falha?

Encontrei um documento com final feliz. No caso, o usuário guiado por um guru conseguiram sucesso. O som funcionou.

O problema é que o kernel não tem suporte automático para o CODEC ALC662 da Realtek, que faz parte do chipset da Intel ICH7. Como disse o colega Teixeira, vem desativado no driver snd-hda-intel

Não se sabe porque, no Ubuntu e seus derivados o som vem desabilitado.
Experimente entrar no terminal e digitar alsamixer (e não "alsa-mixer").
Vai abrir uma tela com uns controles, e alguns estarão a zero.
Use as setas para movimentar-se nessa tela e faça os ajustes necessários.
Feitos os ajustes, é só teclar esc e correr para galera...
Feche o terminal, e seja feliz!

Realizei este procedimento agora e continua MUDO - NO SOUND. Antes de postar o 1º texto (6) eu realizei este procedimento sem sucesso também.

Segui os passos indicados no documento do texto (8), com os Ubuntu 11.04 e 11.10 (que tem kernel 3.0.0), porém sem a assistência do guru. Resultado: Sem som, mudo, NO SOUND.

Vamos persistir, Linux também é isso: Oportunidades para expandir conhecimento...

Galera eu fiz tanta coisa aqui no meu note, seguindo os tuto da net, que não sei como depois de reiniciar o som começou a funcionar mas o microfone parou.
Queria lembrar o qual deu certo para ajudar voces, mas foram tantos. Enfim tentem não desistam uma hora dá certo.

Olá galera!

Continuo tentando mas ainda não funcionou o som.

Para facilitar a quem se candidate a ajudar, passarei novas informações.

Bom, com já afirmei antes, NÃO tem problema de hardware, já testei outra versão da distro, a 11.10 B2 com kernel 3.0.0. Também testei o Fedora 15 e PC-Linux com kernel 2.6.38. Em todos O SOM NÃO FUCIONOU.

Como a minha distro de uso em outros dois equipamentos é o Ubuntu 11.04 e por enquanto não pretendo trocar, limpei o HD e instalei novamente o Ubuntu 11.04, apliquei o suporte a idiomas, e por último baixei e apliquei todas atualizações da versão via "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade".

Esta é situação no momento.

Alguém pode nos ajudar?

Disse "nos ajudar" pois nestes dias que pesquisei o assunto, pude ter conhecimento que muitos utilizadores do Linux se deparam com este entrave. Alguns reportaram que até desistiram do Linux por não encontrar solução e há muitos pedidos de ajuda em aberto por outros utilizadores que estão aguardando uma solução para diferentes distros.
No "www.ubuntuforums.org" eu até encontrei um caso semelhante com status "SOLVED", cujo roteiro conceitual eu apliquei e não resolveu o problema. Daí pode-se dizer cada caso é um caso, e que provavelmente o que está faltando ou está errado é um detalhe pequeno, ou o pulo do gato que está por enquanto fora do conhecimento de utilizadores comuns como eu.
