O Jogo abre normalmente e fecha quando inicio uma partida single player ou multplayer no Ubuntu 18.04 64 bits.

abri no terminal, aparece essa mensagem quando inicio uma partida:

Já resolveu o problema? Se ainda não, sugiro que você obtenha a saída dos comandos abaixo e envie para os desenvolvedores através do fórum oficial - http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?board=49.0

Veja o conteúdo do arquivo ~/.openarena/crashlog.txt:
cat ~/.openarena/crashlog.txt 

Caso o arquivo crashlog.txt não exista, rode o jogo no modo de depuração pelo terminal como usuário normal:
OPENARENA_BACKTRACE=1 openarena 

Qdo der o erro de falha de segmentação, volte ao terminal e anote a saída que o gdb vai retornar. Ela contém registros sobre a pilha de execução antes do surgimento do erro. Essa informação é muito útil para os desenvolvedores!

Obs: se na hora de rodar o game aparecer o erro "bash: exec: gdb: not found", instale o programa GDB (sudo apt-get install gdb) e tente novamente.

Já tem disponível uma nova versão do ioquake3 de 10 de junho. Faça um upgrade dos pacotes e veja se resolveu o problema.

De onde tirou essa informação?

atualizei os pacotes e nada.( executei "apt update" e "apt upgrade" com openarena instalado).

Eu vi a nova versão no repo do Ubuntu:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/i/ioquake3/

Vc e o outro usuário tão usando a versão de janeiro:
ioq3 1.36+u20180108~dfsg-2/Ubuntu linux-x86_64 Jan 15 2018

Falha de segmentação é geralmente causada por bug no programa ou em alguma de suas dependências. Se não der pra atualizar para uma nova versão, o melhor a fazer é enviar o log de erro para os devs.
