1. Problemas com placa GeForce 6200 e inicialização lenta

Eu instalei o Linux Ubuntu 8.04 por curiosidade, e por querer mudar de sistema mesmo.
Instalei normalmente o sistema e funcionou perfeito tirando duas coisas:

Primeira - Ele demora uns 10 mim para iniciar (contando do momento que aperta o power até a tela de login).
Entrei no modo seguro e ele mostra erros (várias vezes com números diferentes entre
[ ] ) mais ou menos assim:
[ 90.6565] ata4 (em Inglês) Algo dizendo que esta lento a transferência e tenta resetar o hardware (hardwarereset), assim mesmo tudo junto, e depois pelo software.
Se alguém puder ajudar blz, se não eu tento um gerenciador de boot depois.

Segundo - O sistema roda redondo. Mas para ativar os efeitos e rodar games tem que ter o driver proprietário da placa. Instalei e quando reinicia, logo após a barra laranja, quando era para aparecer a tela de login ele apaga o monitor mas fica rodando o sistema. Eu faço login (sem a imagem aparecer) e sei que funciona porque eu escuto o som de quando inicia.
Reinstalei o sistema do zero e baixei o driver pelo pacote synaptic e fez a mesma coisa. Antes de baixar pelo synaptic eu baixei da internet que deu erro quando estava extraindo.
Se puderem me ajudar agradeço muito, e tem alguma coisa que eu possa fazer caso aconteça de desligar o monitor como citei acima, quando instalar o driver, de não precisar reinstalar o sistema?

Consegui resolver o problema da resolução depois de procurar muito em foruns sobre Linux.

O problema da inicialização (carregamento) do sistema é que não consegui, se puderem dar uma ajuda eu agradeço.

Eu sei que o ubuntu não demora tanto para iniciar, mas aqui ele leva de 5 a 10 minutos para ligar.
Eu entrei pelo modo seguro onde aparece a inicialização em texto e aparece o seguinte:

ele só varia os números dentro dos [ ] o resto permanece igual. Ele tem mais uma parte que depois disso dizendo algo sobre o fluxo ou tráfego está lento, diz algo sobre resetar o hardware (hardreset) e depois o software (não me lembro o que aparece escrito dai).
Esse mesmo erro aconteceu na instalação quando estava carregando o CD.
Outra coisa que talvez possa ajudar, aconteceu a mesma coisa quando tentei instalar o mandriva, mas nele não consegui proceguir a instalação.

Ahh!, o sistema tava atualizado.

Eu instalei o Ubuntu 8.04 no meu PC e num PC muito lento do meu serviço. No meu PC abre rapidaum. Em menos de 30 segundos. Na maquina lenta, demora um pouco mais, porem, naum chega a 1 minuto.

Com certeza tem alguma coisa de errado nos PCs q demoram mais do que isso.

Se fosse comigo, eu tentaria reinstalar o OS.
Vocês colocaram partição de SWAP com 512 MB ou mais?

Algumas sugestões:
- Checar se seu hd está funcionando normal usando o comando fsck.
- Me parece que isso são mensagens do journaling, mas o ideal seria você rodar o dmesg ou /var/log/syslog e colar aqui alguns destes erros.

Sobre o SWAP, quando instalei mandei formatar o disco inteiro de modo automático (primeira opção se não me engano), então não sei qual tamanho ficou mas creio que maior de 512Mb. Meu disco é de 40Gb.

Sobre erros no HD eu verifiquei com Disc Wizard da seagate e ele não encontrou erros, mas sua dica esta valendo. Estou baixando novamente o Ubuntu e vou experimentar gravar por outro computador.
No momento não estou com o Ubuntu instalado pois tentei instalar o Mandriva e não conseguindo estou usando para guardar uns arquivos. Mas o espaço restante vou tentar instalar o Ubuntu novamente (metade do HD).

o ubuntu deve ter criado um swap de 1.5gb
No cd do Ubunto tem a opção de testa a memoria. Esse programa vai tentar achar erro na memoria é no processador.

Qual e configuração do seu pc??

Desta vez diminuiu um pouco o tempo de carregamento, eu instalei pelo autorun do windows (segundo botão, instalar como um programa do windows).

Na fac, eu tenho Um Semprom como o seu, mas minha placa video é bem menor MX4, 64, e meu HD ´maior, 80. O resto é igual, 3000, 1800 clock,,,
No meu trabalho nunca consegui rodar ubuntu, nem o 7, só muito lento... a mesma coisa o Sabayon Linux, roda, mas muito lento e claro, sem efeitos de acel video...
Eu to usando o mandriva, Mandriva roda bem.
Em casa tenho o Vista, Sabayon e Gentoo, e tutoo virtualizado VMWare em Sabayon Linux, mas em casa roda tudo, inclusive compiz fusion, mas é athlon 3500, nvidia 5200, 128, 2 giga de ram.
Mas sua palca de video é maior que a minha do serviço, e ienclusive a de casa... memso que sue ubuntu ficasse lerdo, devia rodar. crieo que a velocidade de carga,num tem tanto a ver, pq eu espero que u ubuntu novo seja um pouco lento em semprom... Mas acho que seu problema é o driver nvidia inadequado. Vi em alguns foruns, quer fazer downgrade pra um driver mais antigo, costuma resolver. Ta usando odriver 100 ou superior? na minha casa, eu to co o driver serie 98, na placa Gforce 5200, rodou melhor que os drivers mais novos.
Vai re -instalar, pq não tenta um driver um pouco downgrade?

estranho, sua mensagem parece de journalingde disco rígido, e não de placa de vídeo. è duro. ams nãos ou especialista em hardware.
Aqui no vol tem um pessoal bom com hardware, já me ajudaram.
