1. Nvidia nao guarda a configuração feita...

Bom pessoal, o meu problema e o seguinte... estou usando o Debian Etch e estou tentando realizar a configuração de minha placa de video no sistema... estou usando a NVIDIA GF 4 MX 4000 de 128MB, estava seguindo um tutorial de instalação desta placa no sistema ate ae tudo bem... eu instalei todos os pacotes que foram pedidos... como kernel source, kernel headers, nvidia-glx e outros que foram pedidos... fui no site da nvidia e baixei o driver : NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9639-pkg1, eu realizo a instalação deste driver normalmente... so que antes de começar a instalar ele me da esta mensagem de erro, que basta dar ok que ele realiza a instalação sem problemas...

quando a instalação termina ele me pergunta se o instalador pode alterar o arquivo de configuração xor.conf eu clico em sim... logo depois eu mesmo faço as alterações manuais no xorg.conf... e dou o comando gdm para que abra o gerenciador de login do gnome... quando eu executo este comando tudo funciona normalmente... aparece o logo da nvidia abre o sistema... tudo funcionando perfeitamente... sem nenhum problema... de aceleração 3D... so que qunado eu desligo ou reinicio o meu pc... e ele vai abrir o gerenciador de login ele nao abre a tela fica escura pisca algumas vezes... e da erro de iniciliazação do X... acho isso estranho pq se eu der o comando pra desinstalar o driver da nvidia no terminal e instala - lo novamtente o X abre e com o logo da nvidia perfeito na tela... eu estou usando o arquivo xorg.conf de um backup que eu fiz.. antes de formatar o pc... ou seja estou usando o mesmo xorg.conf que estava antes com esta placa de video com tudo funcionando perfeitamente... so nao entendo o pq isso esta acontecendo agora...

Se vc mesmo altera seu arquivo manualmente nao tem precisao de deixar o instalador configurar seu xorg.conf, apenas selecione nao para esta opçao e depois altere seu xorg.conf.

Pode ser que toda vez que seu sistema inicie ele busque as configuraçoes que o instalador fez e nao as achando nao inicie o X.

Tente isso e depois poste o resultado.

Obs: Desculpe a falta de acentuaçao. Estou usando o VirtualBox nesse momento e ainda nao configurei o teclado.

bom fiz como tinha me sugerido... mas aconteceu o mesmo problema... o ambiente X nao inicializa quando reinicio meu pc... e ele me da a seguinte mensagem de erro no log que e gerado... talvez ajude... o log é um pouco extenso mas se ajudar... a resolver meu problema...

eu acho que o problema aí é só alterar a configuração do xorg.conf logado como root. Ele não deve estar salvando seu arquivo por problema de permissão. Tenta aí. Abraço.

com "sudo" ou logado como root abra o "/usr/bin/nvidia-settings" altere as configurações e aplique-as, encontrando a setagem que lhe convier, há o botão "salvar", caso contrário as configurações perderão efeito quando terminada a sessão.

uma coisa que fiquei confuso, você cita:
"quando a instalação termina ele me pergunta se o instalador pode alterar o arquivo de configuração xor.conf eu clico em sim... logo depois eu mesmo faço as alterações manuais no xorg.conf..."

que "alterações manuais" seriam essas?

esta configuracoes sao outras que olhei em outros tutorias e artigos que li sobre as placaas de video da nvidia... mas ja tentei... nao mexer no arquivo xorg.conf e da o mesmo erro ou seja as configuracoes que eu faco depois por conta propria nao estao influenciando neste problema... porque como disse ja tentei usar a copia do original e apenas trocar o "nv" por "nvidia", mas vou tentar isso que vc me disse sobre editar o arquivo /usr/bin/nvidia-settings... depois eu posto os resultados... obrigado pela atencao

não é editar o nvidia-settings, mas sim chamá-lo e fazer sua alterações de resolução através dele e gravá-las!
