Não consigo instalar pacotes de atualizações [RESOLVIDO]

Bom, sou novato em Linux, estou usando o ubuntu e estou com um problema: não consigo fazer download de pacotes de atualização (sudo apt-get update). Quando eu faço o comando no terminal aparece o erro "404 not found" em alguns dos endereços. E pelo gerenciador de pacotes ele simplesmente aparece que está fazendo os downs e ficam no status "falhou" e tamanho "0 bytes" e ao final mostra um erro mostrando os endereços da web e que não foi possivel a conexão.

*será que poderia ser a minha conexão que é muito baixa?
*preciso resolver isso porque quero instalar plugins e alguns programas.

Em 23 de Abril de 2009, o Ubuntu 9.04 foi lançado.
Seu code name é Jaunty Jackalope e é o sucessor para o Intrepid Ibex (8.10).
Jaunty Jackalope não é um distribuição LTS (Long Term Support). Ele será suportado com atualizações de segurança até Outubro de 2010.

-sugiro que vc baixe o live-cd do ubuntu-11.10 e faça uma instalação limpa
-mas antes faça BKP de seus arkivos
-não atualize pq vai corromper seu ubuntu que teve mudança radicais nos ultimos 12 meses

pois então, meu ubuntu é o 9.04 (jaunty) eu e meus amigos de trabalho usam esse ubuntu para fazer backups de arquivos. E então eu quiz mudar meu SO de windows para linux, mas não sabia que o jaunty não tinha suporte. agora vou baixar uma nova versão e creio eu que não terei mais problemas com atualizações. obrigado!!!

-esse live-cd pode ser usado p/ salvar arkivos num pc ou note
-mas não dá p/ usa-lo mais
-instale o 11.10 ou o 10.04-lts que terá suporte até abril/2013

Os pacotes que já foram disponibilizados para versões consideradas obsoletas não ,podem ser baixados de algum lugar? Ou no término do suporte das demais versões os pacotes que estavam disponíveis até esse término se perdem?

Estou há algum tempo tentando colocar diversas versões do linux mint(ubuntu), porém as mais recentes não consigo colocar a placa de video rodar (placa mãe GIGABITY 8m800vm, a placa de video é VIA PM800) e em versões mais antigas não atualizam os pacotes e encontro dificuldade de compatibilidade com softwares como o libreoffice(apesar do openoffice suprir a necessidade), mas principalmente softwares CAD (librecad, QCad, freecad).

Como estou migrando para Linux agora, não tenho conhecimento profundo sobre seu funcionamento, e acredito que talvez alguém de vocês com mais experiência possa me dar alguma dica.
