Tive esse erro aqui no meu Slackware quando tentava executar o Compiz, procurei por todos os cantos da internet e não achei a resposta, então consegui arrumar sozinho.

O erro completo:

         --tty-only       Stop processing options on the right if not on tty.
         --all, -a        Print all matches in PATH, not just the first
         --read-alias, -i Read list of aliases from stdin.
         --skip-alias     Ignore option --read-alias; don't read stdin.
         --read-functions Read shell functions from stdin.
         --skip-functions Ignore option --read-functions; don't read stdin.
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Error: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

Para resolver é simples, basta ativar a opção de mostrar os ícones na Área de trabalho.

Botão direito no Desktop -> Configurar Área de trabalho -> Comportamento -> Exibir Ícones na Área de trabalho

E depois é só reiniciar o X que o Compiz volta a funcionar normalmente.

outra maneira de resolver isso e no terminal digitar:
compiz --replace
